Thermally activated conductivity in gapped bilayer graphene
نویسنده
چکیده
This is a theoretical study of electron transport in gated bilayer graphene — a novel semiconducting material with a tunable band gap. It is shown that the quantum mechanical superposition between conduction and valence band states enhances the subgap conductivity and facilitates the thermally activated transport. The mechanism proposed can also lead to the non-monotonic conductivity vs. temperature dependence at a band gap size of the order of 10meV. The effect can be observed in gapped bilayer graphene sandwiched in boron nitride where the electron-hole puddles and flexural phonons are strongly suppressed.

Nowadays carbon nanoparticles are applied on the island of single electron transistor and Nano-transistors. The basis of single electron devices (SEDs) is controllable single electron transfer between small conducting islands. Based on the important points in quantum mechanics, when a wave passes through several spatial regions with different boundaries, the wave function of the first region di...
متن کاملScreening and collective modes in gapped bilayer graphene
We study the static and dynamic screening of gapped AB-stacked bilayer graphene. Unlike previous works we use the full 4-band model instead of the simplified 2-band model. We find that there are important qualitative differences between the dielectric screening function obtained using the simplified 2-band model and the 4-band model. In particular, within the 4-band model, in the presence of a ...
متن کاملObservation of Anomalous Resistance Behavior in Bilayer Graphene
Our measurement results have shown that bilayer graphene exhibits an unexpected sharp transition of the resistance value in the temperature region 200~250 K. We argue that this behavior originates from the interlayer ripple scattering effect between the top and bottom ripple graphene layer. The inter-scattering can mimic the Coulomb scattering but is strongly dependent on temperature. The obser...
متن کاملCommon-path interference and oscillatory Zener tunneling in bilayer graphene p-n junctions.
Interference and tunneling are two signature quantum effects that are often perceived as the yin and yang of quantum mechanics: a particle simultaneously propagating along several distinct classical paths versus a particle penetrating through a classically inaccessible region via a single least-action path. Here we demonstrate that the Dirac quasiparticles in graphene provide a dramatic departu...
